EDI Enablement with Kinray

“I only wish I had contacted DiCentral sooner” – Mike Nieves, Kinray EDI Coordinator

Mike Nieves at Kinray has been the EDI coordinator for 3 years. He recognized the benefits of an EDI program early in his tenure. Kinray had made changes to their internal program to reduce overall EDI network costs and this effort had brought $250,000 savings in one year. Mike could see that buyer and supplier would experience cost saving from an automated, error free process especially when they were able to integrate the information within their network.

Kinray had already begun the process of automating suppliers on several EDI initiatives:

850 Purchase Order – Order Receipt and Acknowledgment was a lengthy manual business procedure. Automating this process with the manufacturer had allowed Kinray to re-allocate resources to assist the buyer with product and inventory analysis.

856 Advance Ship Notice – All products are now specifically identified and efficiently managed for inventory and product returns.

810 Invoice - Kinray was able to take advantage of Invoicing terms and keep current on payouts to the manufacturer. Overall Cash flow became more current.

844/849 Chargeback Program – Previously this was a 10 day process. Integration to their internal systems enabled them to process these requests in 2 to 3 days. Account adjustments could now be immediately applied upon manufacturer approval.

Kinray wanted to have 100% EDI compliance with the manufacturing companies. The savings had been significant for Kinray and they wanted to extend this across their trading partner community.

Mike Nieves spoke with Pat Hall, Director of Business Development for DiCentral. Mike discussed the challenges he experienced with bringing trading partners into the EDI program. Together, Pat and Mike developed a vendor program that would be compatible to Kinray’s EDI initiatives and provide EDI benefits for the manufacturers. Mike realized with DiCentral, manufacturers could use the DiCentral hosted services for the EDI program with Kinray and sign up with other pharmaceutical distributors, at minimal cost. With DiCentral, Kinray would receive a more participative response from the manufacturers.

The program has brought a positive response from the manufacturers. Kinray has experienced a significant benefit from this collaborative effort. “I only wish I had contacted DiCentral sooner,” Mike commented. “This program has been great.”
